Music Lessons for Kids
Learning how to play music aids brain development, emotional intelligence, problem solving and boosts creativity. It is also very fun, teaches kids how to achieve, and finish the projects that they start.
Learning music teaches kids how to achieve.
Often our younger students express that they like to play video games. Video games can be super fun, but they are also designed to keep their users engaged. Video games employ quite a number of different tactics to keep users engaged such as flashing lights, point systems, rankings, badges, and upgrades. Playing a musical instrument is a little bit different. Your musical instrument are never going to start flashing bright colors after you learn a new song or give you a new badge after you learn 20 beats. Music students learn to be patient and then appreciate their own gains and reward themselves with positive self talk. We help our children students to do this by reminding them to be patient and helping them to know when they've achieved something great. Learning this lesson is one of the most powerful lessons a kid can learn.
Learning music boosts kids self-esteem.
As our students progress we start to give them projects. We are careful to never make these projects too hard or too easy. We want them to be just right. By setting a goal for the student, then asking the student to commit, and then helping them to achieve the goal, the student learns that they are capable of getting things done. We first ask the student to do something small, such as play a piece for their parent in the same room in which they normally take lessons. Eventually we make the project bigger. The pieces get harder and the audiences get bigger. What is interesting, however, is the student doesn't notice the difference in size so much. They started small and progressively got bigger. Throughout this process and certainly at the end the student grows more confident. We are firm believers that our students can accomplish far more than they expect.
Learning music is not only fun, it boosts intelligence and creativity.
Over and over we hear of studies coming out that acclaim the positive mental benefits of music. Learning music is interesting because it activates both hemispheres of the brain. It requires memorization, coordination, mathematical problem solving, emotional expression, and pronged focus. We are not surprised when our former students become bankers, programmers, entrepreneurs, or doctors. This instrument quickens the brain and tunes the body.

What Will We Learn
Performance.
We have recitals at least two times a year. Recitals give our students an outlet to perform. Performance is a skill of our own and we make sure to help our students prepare for the stage musically, mentally and from an entertainment standpoint as well.
During covid we have continued to offer recitals, however, we have now begun doing them on Zoom. They are perhaps even more fun than recitals were before.
Songs.
We will help you learn the songs that you want to learn as well as suggest songs that would help take you playing to the next level. We want our students to be well rounded musicians who play full songs and know how to play with other musicians if the opportunity arises. After you learn a song we would be happy to help you get footage of your song so you can post on social media and build your artist portfolio.
Proper Technique.
We will teach you the correct way to hold your instrument, proper posture, and instrument specific technique.
Fluidity and Fluency Exercises.
Scales, chords, melodies, modes, etudes, diction, you name it we teach it. And we know how to make learning these exercises fun.
Improvisation.
Improvising is one of the most fun things musicians do. We improvise every day when we have conversations, problem solve, and even when we drive our cars. It only makes sense that improvisation should be part of a musical curriculum.
Chops.
Chops are like a fill, Imbut more intense. We will teach you some chops and then how to expand and modify your chops so that they sound super different from what you start with. That will help you get more mileage out of each chop.
Genre Studies.
We will discuss and then practice how to play different genres of music with authenticity and proper style. We will also discuss the top musicians of whatever instrument is being learned and discuss their best practices, style, and what we can learn from them.
Audition Preparation
One of the best ways to get ready for an audition is have a professional help you prepare, practice, and know what the judge is looking for. We love helping our students succeed and we have a great track record doing just that.
